Alex is a determined social entrepreneur. He has applied his drive to do well, by doing good, at ventures in consumer products, art & advertising, new media, and socially responsible investment.
Entrepreneurship is in Alex’s blood, and his social conscious has been shaped by his schooling, and his family, in particular by late grandmother Susi Salzman, who narrowly escaped death in Nazi Germany and fought against complacency and the voiceless for the rest of her life.
In 2001, Alex Salzman conceived and lead the Vancouver to Toronto Ride For Youth, a charitable fundraiser for children’s charities Kids Help Phone and Casa Guatemala, winning national newspaper and television coverage.
While earning a degree in Economics at Princeton University, Alex took a leave of absence to assist with the launch of TerraCycle, Inc. a company producing products derived from and packaged in waste.
Shifting his focus to media, Alex co-founded international cause marketing agency, Blue Horizon Media, in 2005. The agency gave birth to Rethos, Inc, a network of social media sites devoted to uniting individuals, non-profit organizations, and socially responsible businesses on solutions to social and environmental issues. In 2008, Rethos was acquired by Parta.
Beginning in 2008 Alex began to dedicate himself to professionally perusing a parallel career as a conceptual artist. Alex produced an initial collection from 2008 through 2010 and began selling his work privately, and through show at the Roger Smith Artists' Hotel in NYC.
